Breast Procedures
Dr. JoAn Monaco offers procedures to improve the look or size of breasts, both for women and men. Breast reconstruction, a complex but gratifying process for women who have lost one or both breasts to cancer or other trauma, can vastly improve a patient’s quality of life. Other common breast surgeries include breast lifts, which reshape and elevate the breast, and breast reductions, which reduce the overall size of the breast to eliminate back, neck, or shoulder pain. Male chest contouring, an increasingly common procedure, eliminates excess breast tissue.
Together, these surgeries offer patients opportunities for dramatic improvement in self-image, self-confidence, and comfort, usually on an outpatient basis.
Both my friend and I have been devoted patients of Dr. Monaco. We have both been to other doctors, but did not receive the care, kindness and superior service that we receive from her. We both recommended many of our friends to her and they too were very satisfied. Once you go to Dr. Monaco your search will be over for a good doctor. She also did medical procedures for friends and they too were pleased with her bedside manner.
I would recommend Dr. Monaco without reservation.

Breast Augmentation (Mammoplasty)
Breast augmentation enhances the appearance and size of a breast or to correct breast unevenness. It is the most commonly performed cosmetic surgical procedure in women. There were almost 350,000 mammoplasty procedures last year, according to statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.
This procedure is performed on an outpatient basis. Implants can be inserted through the armpit, through the crease under the breast or around the nipple to conceal scarring. Sometimes, it’s necessary to perform breast augmentation in conjunction with a breast lift to restore a youthful breast appearance. Both saline and silicone gel implants are currently available for cosmetic use and are approved by the FDA.

Breast Lift (Mastopexy)
Genetics, pregnancy, significant weight changes, and aging are a few of the factors that can contribute to sagging of the breast. A mastopexy procedure rejuvenates breast contour by reshaping and elevating the breast.
A mastopexy procedure can vary, depending on the patient’s breast volume and the extent of skin sag. Redraping the breast skin can correct for a sagging breast. Alternatively, for patients who wish to enhance to size of their breasts, Dr. Monaco can add a breast implant during the same procedure. Breast lifts are typicall outpatient procedures.

Breast Reduction (Reduction Mammaplasty)

Reducing the overall size of the breast and reshaping the breast can significantly improve quality of life. This surgery is performed on an outpatient basis. Breast Reconstruction
Breast reconstruction is an emotionally-rewarding surgery for patients who have lost one or both breasts to breast cancer, trauma, or another condition. It is a highly individualized procedure that can dramatically improve a patient’s self-image and potentially improve a patient’s quality of life.
The timing and technique of the procedure varies from patient to patient, dending on their needs. Sometimes, breast reconstruction can be performed using a patient’s own tissue, taken from the abdomen or the back. Alternatively, the surgeon can use a breast implant. Breast reconstruction involves stages that can begin at the time of mastectomy or be delayed until a patient heals from her mastectomy and any other additional cancer treatments that might be required. Not only can surgery recreate the breast mound but also the nipple complex. The nipple can be color tattooed to match the patient’s opposite breast. A one or two night hospitalization is typical for most patients if breast reconstruction is performed at the time of mastectomy.

Male Chest Contouring (Gynecomastectomy)
Some men develop excess breast tissue on one or both sides. This is a common condition that can occur at any age. It can be the result of hormonal changes, hereditary conditions, or the use of certain medications.
There are various techniques to correct the issue, including liposuction and excision of the breast tissue directly. Incisions are traditionally placed around the nipple complex and are generally well-tolerated. The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis. More than 20,000 gynecomastectomies were performed last year alone, according to data from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.
