Neuromodulators and Dermal Fillers
The signs of aging can occur at any time. Excessive sun exposure, smoking, genetics, and lifestyle all contribute to the health and appearance of the skin. People who notice signs of skin aging often wish that their outward appearance could reflect more of the youthful sense they feel on the inside. Fortunately, there are treatments that help rejuvenate the skin! Patients who seek skin treatment often experience increased confidence and self-esteem from the changes in their appearance, feeling that they are looking their best.
Injectable treatments such as neuromodulators and dermal fillers provide a minimally invasive alternative to surgical treatments, but there are different types of injectable treatment to choose from, depending on the patient’s needs.
Benefits of Neuromodulators
Injectable neurotoxin treatments, such as Botox®, treat dynamic facial wrinkles, such as crow’s feet, frown lines, and forehead wrinkles, by relaxing the muscles that produce those wrinkles. Dynamic facial wrinkles are wrinkles that are caused by repeated muscle movements. Neurotoxin injections inhibit the contractions of carefully-targeted muscles, allowing the creases they produce in the skin to smooth.
Aesthetically, neuromodulator treaments:
- Create a more youthful appearance by smoothing and softening dynamic facial wrinkles
- Prevent facial lines from forming or deepening
- Use a simple, minimally-invasive procedure with little or no recovery time
- Provide fast results with patients often noticing improvement in a few days and more complete results in only a week or two
- Produce effects that last about 3 to 6 months and which can be adjusted in later renewal treatments
Benefits of Dermal Fillers
Dermal filler products provide volume to control the shape and contour of facial features and improve the appearance of static wrinkles. They restore a more youthful, full look in the midface. Unlike dynamic wrinkles, which are caused by muscle movements, static wrinkles are caused by changes in the quality of the skin. The benefits of filler products include:
- Reducing the appearance of lines and creases around the mouth and lips
- Lessening deep frown lines
- Improving the appearance of recessed scars
- Plumping thin lips
- Restoring more youthful contours to the cheek and eye areas
Using an injectable filler or a fat transfer technique does not stop the aging process. However, these techniques may benefit patients who prefer non-surgical rejuvenation or who are not surgical candidates.
Combination Treatments and Other Injectables
It’s important to note that the neuromodulators and fillers are not an either/or choice. Depending on a patient’s condition and goals, they may be used in combination to both add volume and definition to features and smooth dynamic wrinkles for a more youthful appearance overall.
Dermal fillers and neuromodulators are not the only options for aesthetic injectables. An additional injectable treatment is JUVÉDERM® Skinvive. JUVÉDERM® Skinvive is actually a microdroplet injectable, not a filler. It provides hydration under the skins to improve skin texture.
